Madison MathFest Activities

The EM SIG will sponsor a presentation by Prof. Joseph Buongiorno, “Models for the Management of Forested Landscapes". He is in the department of Forest Ecology and Management, University of Wisconsin. His presentation will be at 4:30 on Friday, and will be followed by a short EM SIG business meeting.

On Saturday, we will have a bus trip to nearby Sand County for a guided tour of the Aldo Leopold Legacy Center. Leopold is the father of biology-based forestry. He transformed forestry from a strictly extractive "woodlot" approach to the management of a living system. Professor. Buongiorno will accompany us on the tour. His department grew out of the program started by forest ecology pioneer Aldo Leopold.

The bus tour will leave from the Monona Terrace (Convention Center) at 1:30 PM and is slated to return at 5:00 PM. The bus tour, including the $10 Legacy Center entry fee, is $15 for EMSIG members. (The cost for a non-member is $20.) There are only 24 openings, so please register early. Please send your check to:
